My name is Mary Ellen, M.E. has always been a nick name of mine. I'm from Dallas and grew up organizing my family's spaces and my friends spaces. I've always loved to sort and categorize, keeping all like items together. It clears my mind to get a space back in order! Starting my own organizing business had always been a dream of mine but it took the back shelf for many, many years.
I went to college and earned a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. I worked at a couple of non-profits at various points but the desire to organize was always there. At one point early out of college, I came so close to starting my business - I had business name ideas I was sharing with family and I was researching NAPO on how to get started. My idea was to take a part-time job at The Container Store while I got up and running... My part-time job turned into an almost 10 year career. :) These were invaluable years. I learned about the storage and organization industry. I learned about product and space designing. My biggest accomplishment was being a part of the creation and launch of The Container Store's original in-home organizing program. I recruited, trained and worked with professional organizers across the country, learning about how to work with customers in their home. It was almost my dream come true!
Then my children came along, and my whole world changed. It became the most important job to me. It also became a real struggle to keep up with all of the other things in my life. I left The Container Store in hopes to find a job with more flexibility and less stress. I found myself working another full-time job and I had just as much stress. I could not keep up with my life as I juggled my roles as employee, wife, mom, friend (insert you name it) and the never ending full schedule. My home was far from organized and I was drained, mentally and physically.
After a period of deep self-reflection, I realized I needed to start my own organizing business. For my soul and for my sanity. My plan was to first organize my own home so I could reset myself. Through my self-reflection stage, I had discovered an exciting program that Marie Kondo offered, how to be a KonMari Consultant. I felt a spark inside. It wasn't a few months later though, until I began to organize my own home, that I decided to read her book, "the life changing magic of tidying up." Marie Kondo's whole philosophy is about keeping things that only spark joy. I was yearning to feel joy again! Following her decluttering method, The KonMari Method, I decluttered my own items. It was magical. For the first time, I learned about the relationship I had with my things - and that's where the magic is - you learn why you keep something and you learn when to let something go. For the first time, a weight was lifted from me and my home. For the first time, I was able to keep my home organized. It had such a lasting impact on me and my home that I signed up for the KonMari Consultant program right away and I haven't looked back.
I am passionate about this method. I want everyone to experience the change! It is the most effective way, the only way, to get yourself organized and stay that way. That's big!! I was in the organization industry for almost 10 years!! It is the one thing though that I have found that will actually help you get rid of items. And that is what people so desperately need if they want space and want to stay organized.
My home is clutter free, as I stay intentional with what I bring into it - and it's fun! I'm purposeful with what I shop for, and when I find just the right thing I am searching for, it feels so good! I feel fulfilled again, as I continue to stay intentional with what I bring into my life. I am focused more than ever on nurturing the relationships that matter to me.
My hope is that you can experience the same. Get your space back, start living with intention and keep it that way. I'm ready to help you!!
